For the solitary witch, spellwork can be an extremely personal and private endeavor. The usual basic form is this: ingredients are gathered, cleansed if need be, and set aside for mixture. Tools are brought to the altar, intentions prepared, and the casting follows. Afterward, it’s time for cleaning up and refreshments. Earth-based religions are flexible and the actual process may take many forms—it can be as simple as carving a few words on a chime candle or it can be an elaborate ritual with ceremonial robes, ground and center, honor the elements and directions, cast the spell, cakes and ale. Many castings fall somewhere in between.
